Mighty Root

Lately everyone got familiar with Avatar's Pandora, but two weeks ago I opened my very own Pandora's box, which unleashed the world of …
UNIX upon me, specifically FreeBSD.

A long intended project finally got realized.
I am very excited to announce that Pixelbaker invested in a solid backup solution for my clients and my future freelance career.

10 TeraByte of storage bundled into a RAID5, driven by Suns award winning filesystem ZFS are securing former projects, as well as my day-to-day business. Also Apples TimeMachine directly backs up to my server and takes advantage of the RAID.
I personally chose every hardware component myself to maintain an energy efficient and not overpowered solution which doesn't suffer from feature creep.

I gained some deep and valuable insights while configuring this server. I want to thank Karsten Fuhrmann, administrator at Cartoon-Film, for answering my numerous questions.

Meanwhile I am closing in on my first year working for Cartoon-Film, which makes me very happy. At the current production I am getting more and more responsibilities.
I recently did a lot of skinning, correction shapes and finalizing of characters. So far I had every character on my desk - it feels great. Stay tuned.

Check It

My sore fingers are recovering from a wonderful and intense time at Cartoon-Film. I had the opportunity to script 58 checks plus framework.
The checks are going to maintain data quality throughout our complex 3D scenes and are being used in Berlin and in India, where they will aid the modeling, rigging and layout department. I enjoyed it so much, I am really looking forward to get into more scripting challenges like this.

But the story does not end here. I was given the chance to help the rigging department in Berlin from today on. I will support my supervisor and dear colleague Niels Roscher with reviewing the skinning and facial expressions of the characters done by the indian studio. ... to be continued

A little bit outdated but not to be withhold from you: Since the last three weeks I am again employed at Cartoon-Film.
I got hired for the feature film production Lauras Star and the Dreammonsters.
That gives me the possibility to follow my passion for programming and develop a bunch of complex checking tools with Maxscript.
In my spare time I am pushing my C++ project to an end, which will be published until the end of this year on my webpage. So stay tuned.

Fruit of
the day

Greetings from good old Berlin. The production of Lauras Stern 2 is over.
It was a fantastic time. So many talented artists from all over the world, worked in an inspiring way together to deliver high quality in time. I would like to thank everyone for giving me the opportunity to learn and participate in this production.

The premiere will be in Hamburg on the World Children’s Day. Officially the movie is hitting cinemas at the 24th of September this year. So grab you kids and get ready for the ride.

I am also very excited to inform you about a hardware investment I did:
From now on I am producing on a MacBook Pro, which enables me to work onside at the customers office.
This shortens communication channels and approval processes. Everything is setup, allowing for more time to be productive.
And I decided to install a triple-boot-system, which gives me more flexibility for developing and testing plugins and scripts on a much broader range, reaching more users.

Trailer Mania

Hello Pixel-Friends. Yesterday the team at Cartoon-Film had a screening in the nearby cinema Sputnik to watch some of the final composed shots.

Even without sound, the images created so much atmosphere, it was really fun to watch and to dive into the world of Laura. When released to cinema in September, the world class pianist Lang Lang will have added 10 minutes of his talent to the film.
And just recently the german web trailer went online, which I would like to share with you:

While on the production, I still found some time to help my friend Shai Hamburger who graduated at Animation Mentor last week, with his final thesis animation short.
I would like to congratulate him and wish him well for his animation carrier.
