Hof

With a lot of inspiration I am back from the "Hofer Filmtage". The film festival was held in a small bavarian city called Hof. From Friday to Sunday I was joining the film team which worked on the movie Glioblastom.
In the VFX shot I created, a goldfish had to die. I also did some image processing on the footage.

After Miss Bildung, this is my second movie on which I am working together with Tanja Bubbel and Axel Ranisch. Both are studying at the HFF Potsdam.

First picture is from the film itself and the second shows Tanja and Axel, lovely picture. :)

class C++

I am taking "class": Object-Oriented-Programming (OOP) with C++
My friend Mathias Mielitz, game programmer at Radon Labs, is giving me an inside in the world of headers, classes, pointers and the thinking behind OOP. I am working with Visual Studio Express
on that.

I hope to reprogram my brain from procedural thinking into thinking in classes. My goal is to start programming plug-ins for Maya soon.

This weekend I was developing the old way a python script for Realflow (RF). I managed to move particles along a path inside RF. The path itself can be created in Maya. I am still improving the algorithm.

Drawing

I uploaded for the sake of completeness and to show that I am not a total waste when it comes to pencils :), some drawings I did in the first semester of my studies. (Link)

I also uploaded the new pb_dofGUI script version 1.0.1.
I fixed some math problems for calculating the panel shape and added some more documentation on how to use the script. I also uploaded the new version on Highend3D.

I like to share an interesting picture with you. My friend Roman Bansen made it during his visit in India this year. The asian countries are coming.

Diploma Thesis

You can download my diploma thesis from the download area now. I was researching on techniques and handling of depth-of-field (DOF) in computer animation.

In the first chapters I am analysing the techniques used for simulating DOF in 3D applications. Then I am comparing compositing and 3D DOF workflows, followed by an in-depth look on usability of the seven most widely used 3D software.

In the middle part I am evaluating an interview with three 3D-Animation/VFX companies in Germany regarding their approach on DOF. After that I am going into the pb_dofGUI script I developed.

The last part concentrates on future techniques and research on DOF and its use in realtime applications.
Right now the paper is available in german.

Another fun thing I like to tell you about is my motion capturing experience I had on Wednesday. My friend Rainer Heynke, student of the FHTW (University of Applied Sciences) in Berlin, asked me if I like to come over and watch the six camera Vicon system they have. Sure I said, not knowing that I would be the actor. Enjoy the Pixelbaker in a full Lycra-body-suite. :)

Techreel

As I promised yesterday, I uploaded my new Demoreel, which I call Techreel. It shows technical solutions in the field of Rigging and Scripting. It states the direction in which I like to develop further more.
This should help companies to more easily identify my skills and potential.

I guess this video is more entertaining for geeks and nerds like me. :)
